Hats & Heels welcomes new Chaplain of Birmingham Cathedral

The Cathedral Chaplain at St Philip’s Cathedral in Birmingham city centre was the special guest at the latest Hats & Heels networking event on Westside.

Colleen Shekerie, who took up her appointment at the end of 2022, spoke about her role during the ladies’ networking get-together, held at Noel’s Bar & Restaurant on Waterfront Walk on 7 June.

The event, which was organised in partnership with Westside BID, was attended by more than 20 women.

The role of Cathedral Chaplain combines both pastoral care and outreach work in the wider community.

On her appointment, Colleen said she wanted to ‘reimagine the pastoral care in the parish of Birmingham city centre’.

During the Hat & Heels lunch, she spoke about her personal journey into her role as well as her outreach work, particularly focusing on those with mental health problems and experiencing homelessness, the city’s most vulnerable people.

Nikki Hibberts, the Westside Vulnerability Warden, will be working closely with Colleen in the future.

People attending the event were welcomed by the manager of Noel’s, Callum Connolly.

Lorraine Olley, the founder of Hats & Heels, said: “It was wonderful to see so many ladies attending our latest event on Westside.

“We are so grateful to Colleen for giving up some of her valuable time to attend the event and tell us about the vital work she is doing through her chaplain’s role at Birmingham Cathedral.

”And thank you also to Callum at Noel’s Bar & Restaurant for being such a wonderful host.”
