Get out and enjoy spring air on Westside walk this Thursday

Now that spring has well and truly arrived, what better reason to take a deserved break from the office – and boost your mental wellbeing at the same time.

Westside BID has organised a 30-minute canal-side walk at lunchtime this Thursday 28 March, and BID members have been encouraged to sign up.

The gentle stroll, which sets off from outside the Sea Life Centre at 12.30pm, has been organised with the Canal & River Trust and Coaches For Change, who are the BID’s wellbeing partners.

At the end of the walk, which sees participants ‘rewarded’ with light refreshments at the Canal House, there will be a talk from Birmingham Mind fundraising officer Kerrie Henry-Edge.

Birmingham Mind is currently running its Move More for March campaign, which encourages everyone to move for at least 30 minutes a day during this month, whether going for a walk, visiting a gym, or gardening.

Kerrie said: “I will be speaking generally about mental health and the benefits that physical exercise brings, such as helping to reduce stress. It is really important that all of us spend at least 30 minutes a day doing something physical.”

Coaches For Change say that going for a walk for just 30 minutes has a number of benefits. These range from controlling cholesterol levels and regulating blood pressure to improving mental health and wellbeing.

Luisa Huggins, marketing manager at Westside BID, said: “Come and join us for a relaxing afternoon stroll along the beautiful canals of Westside. Take a break from the hustle and bustle of the city and immerse yourself in nature.

“This guided walk is the perfect way to unwind, connect with others, and boost your wellbeing. Don’t forget to bring a water bottle! See you there!”

The event is for BID members only. Anyone wanting more details can email Luisa at luisa.huggins@westsidebid.co.uk. And spaces for the event can be booked here

Win £25 for Mr Mulligans: Westside BID is running a little competition for those joining the walk, with a prize of a £25 gift card for Mr Mulligans at Broadway Plaza. Anyone who books a ticket and follows WestsideBID on all social media platforms will be entered into a raffle, with the winner will be announced at the event.
