The Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra (SZSO) from China will perform at Birmingham Symphony Hall on its first ever UK tour on Monday 11 March.
More than 100 musicians will be on stage to present a wide-ranging programme that features both film and orchestral music.

This will include live orchestral performances of music from the Academy Award-winning hit movie Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, which blends Chinese ceremonial and classical music together in an action-packed drama.
The film score was composed by Tan Dun, who is also the SZSO’s principal honorary conductor.
The programme also features Chausson’s Poème, a fantastical story about a woman seduced by a former lover with an enchanted violin. The SZSO will be joined by acclaimed and internationally renowned violinist Tamsin Waley-Cohen for this piece.
Daye Lin, music director and principal conductor of the SZSO, explained that since the orchestra was founded over 40 years ago in Shenzhen, what was a small fishing village has been transformed into China’s third largest city.
He said: “It has been a dream of mine for a long time to bring the orchestra to the UK and we can’t wait to perform for audiences across the country.
“We’ve created a programme that includes moments of exciting drama, serene beauty, and virtuosic brilliance, which we know British audiences will enjoy.”
Chris Proctor, head of programme at B:Music, the charity responsible for Birmingham Symphony Hall, said: “We’re thrilled to be making history by hosting the China Shenzen Symphony Orchestra’s first concert on their very first UK tour.
“They’re only the second Chinese orchestra to appear at Symphony Hall and we’re sure their East meets West programme will bring them much support from Birmingham’s thriving Chinese community as well as from regular concertgoers. We cannot wait to welcome them to Symphony Hall this March.”
