Asher D, star of Top Boy, wows fans during unique event on Westside

Rapper, actor and producer Ashley Walters, also known by his stage name Asher D, wowed fans during a one-night only event on Westside.

Ashley rose to fame as a member of the UK garage group So Solid Crew, which hit the top spot with their second single 21 Seconds. He also had an active acting career, and more recently was executive producer and starred in the hit Netflix crime drama Top Boy.

Fans enjoyed watching him delve into his upbringing and love for music at at Pryzm on Westside, organised by Show Fighter UK. He highlighted how he got into the So Solid crew.

Ashley said: “I was a fan of So Solid before I joined the group; it took a lot of determination to get me into the crew.”

He described how he had grown up with a passion for music as long as he remembers, and said: “Artists would have artwork in their albums that I’d obsess over, and I’d remember getting a new album, and it was me covered for the year. I’d listen to the album repeatedly till the CD was damaged, and I’d have to buy a new one.”

Crowds also laughed and cheered as he recalled his experiences growing up in London. You can watch out video of the event here: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/14DrX_t7xlI

His latest project Top Boy is a series set on the fictional Summerhouse estate in Hackney, London, and focuses on two drug dealers, Dushane (player by Ashley) and Sully (played by Kane Robinson), along with others involved with drug dealing and gang violence in London.

Luisa Huggins, media and communciations manager at Westside BID, said: “I’ve followed Ashley and his career for as long as I can remember. He’s such a talented individual, and he creates real-life content by covering hard-hitting storylines, which many other producers fail to do. It was an honour to meet him; he’s such a humble guy. He makes people feel seen and heard.

“The venue was excellent. Pryzm on Broad Street is spread across four different rooms, playing the best music by providing the best clubbing experience in the West Midlands.”
