Westside will see dozens of climate change protesters descending on Centenary Square on for a vigil from 7am this Friday 24 November.
A spokesman for West Midlands Police said the event will be held from 7am as part of a national day of action and that it was in contact with the organisers to ensure it was a peaceful protest.
Mike Olley, general manager of Westside BID, said: “The UK is a wonderful democracy and it’s great that people can gather to protest about things that matter.
“We hope that those attending the gathering do not cause any problems for people working, living in or visiting Westside.
“The event should remain peaceful at all times, but our street wardens will be keeping a close eye on Centenary Square, in partnership with our colleagues at West Midlands Police.”
The Centenary Square event is one of several protests expected to take place in Birmingham city centre over the coming days, according to West Midlands Police. Other protests in the city, which are not expected to impact on Westside, include:
- an anti-immigration group in the Bull Ring on Saturday 25 November, and
- a pro-Palestine rally in the High Street from 12 noon on Sunday 26 November.
