Elaine Weir, the business liaison manager of Westside BID, has become an authorised ‘collector of poppies’ for the Royal British Legion.
She is now busy distributing poppy boxes across the Westside area so that people can make a donation and wear one of the flowers in the run up to Remebrance Day.
This has involved Elaine working with military cadets linked with the SSFA Armed Forces Charity.
Mike Olley, general manager of Westside BID, said: “We proudly associate ourselves with the SSFA charity and are pleased to regularly work with them and military cadets in honouring our armed services who have sacrificed their lives.
“We are also honoured to help the Royal British Legion with their poppy appeal, and I’m particularly proud of Elaine for becoming an officially authorised ‘collector of poppies’.”
Elaine herself added: “We’ve supported the Royal British Legion for many years and I am even more honoured to be doing this in the run up to Remembrance Sunday in this official capacity.
“Businesses across Westside are always keen to support the Royal British Legion as it’s an organisation that resonates with a lot of people, so we are pleased to be doing our part.”
A spokesperson for the Royal British Legion said: “Our collectors have been at the heart of the Poppy Appeal for 100 years and come from all regions, walks of life and corners of the UK, helping to raise vital funds.”
