Westside BID holds World Menopause Day workshop at Deutsche Bank

Westside BID, Coaches for Change and Deutsche Bank joined forces on World Menopause Day to raise awareness of the condition and highlight options to improve health and wellbeing.

Deutsche Bank, which employs more than 7,000 people across its Birmingham and London centres, says one of its key aims is to ensure that staff feel welcomed, accepted, respected and supported.

During the World Menopause Day workshop Harriette Luscombe, co-founder of Coaches for Change, relayed a number of powerful statistics.

They included that around 6% of people have left their employment due to a lack of support in relation to their menopause symptoms, while a further 17% have considered leaving work.

In addition, more than one in ten people feel discriminated against because of their menopausal symptoms, and more than a quarter say the menopause has had a negative impact on their career progression.

And at least half of respondents (53%) were able to think of a time when they were unable to go into work due to their menopause symptoms.
The workshop formed part of Westside BID’s ‘Be kind to your mind’ initiative which aims to produce a series of impactful and meaningful wellbeing focused activities, including weekly virtual fitness classes and in-person monthly events.

Luisa Huggins, Westside BID’s media and communications manager, said: “It was an honour to provide this service for the staff at Deutsche Bank. It’s crucial that people of all genders are clued up on issues surrounding this, and that includes line managers, family and friends.

“There will be a time in your life when you or someone you know is dealing with this, so it’s helpful if you can provide support, whether it’s a listening ear, or a hug. It goes a long way.”
