All the world’s a stage for new recruit at city’s Repertory Theatre

The Rep theatre on Westside is looking for a new senior member of staff as part of its ambition to “truly represent the city it serves”.

The venue in Centenary Square, which was established in 1913, is advertising for a deputy head of stage.

The pioneering repertory theatre, which can accommodate almost 1,300 people across its three auditoria, is in a process of “significant renewal”, with the vision of being a national and international centre for “artistically ambitious popular theatre in all its forms”.

A spokesperson said: “These are exciting times for The Rep and the city of Birmingham. It is a city full of dynamism and energy, and currently undergoing its own renaissance as one of the fastest growing cities in the country.

“Part of The Rep’s mission is to ensure that its programme is truly representative of the city it serves, and we aim to imaginatively engage with the people of Birmingham and beyond to create productions that fill our theatres with its people.”

The spokesperson said the deputy head of stage was an “exciting new role” with responsibility for all stage requirements for The Rep productions, also assuming a hands-on role in the day-to-day running of the department.

There is also a responsibility to ensure that digital technology and sustainability are “at the heart of every project”.

The main duties and responsibilities of the new role include installing, operating and maintaining stage equipment for productions, as well as conferences and hires.

He or she must also ensure that the productions “adhere to the creator’s original design”, and maintain all technical equipment.

Candidates for the role, which may occasionally involve working away from Birmingham, must have a minimum of three years’ experience in a producing theatre.

This experience must include knowledge and understanding of the theatrical technical industry, and excellent knowledge and experience in stage and rigging.

The deadline for receipt of applications is 12 noon on 29 September.

To apply, complete the online application process on The Rep’s website: https://www.birmingham-Rep.co.uk/get-involved/careers-and-vacancies.html
