City skyscrapers earn a place in Westside’s calendar for May

An eye-catching example of Westside’s gradually expanding and increasingly impressive skyline has resulted in a coveted prize for the photographer who captured it.

The image, taken by Albert Blakeway, has been chosen as the May entry in the Westside BID’s 2022 calendar.

It is an almost birds-eye view of a couple of the imposing skyscrapers which have transformed the landscape of Broad Street and Brindleyplace in recent years.

The judges’ decision to include Albert’s close-up view of the buildings follows a number of striking additions to Westside’s skyline, both business and residential, which have been reported on by the BID as they happened.

One of the most recent multi-storey developments on Westside is the 42-storey building, The Mercian, in Broad Street accommodates almost 500 luxury apartments on the site of the former Click Club nightspot.

Albert’s prize for representing May in the BID calendar is £75 worth of vouchers to spend in selected Westside venues.

Westside BID general manager Mike Olley said: “We have been really impressed with the diverse range of photographs that people have submitted for inclusion in the calendar, and Albert’s is no exception.

“It perfectly illustrates the scale of development that has been taking place in the area in recent years that can only be exciting as we continue to look ahead to the future.”
