Jimmy Carr spots lookalike doll on Westside’s Black Sabbath bench

The heavy metal bench on Westside celebrating renowned Birmingham band Black Sabbath has caught the eye of top UK comic Jimmy Carr.

Jimmy, who was performing his Terribly Funny show at Symphony Hall on Monday 11 April, used his Instagram account to post a rag doll with an uncanny likeness to himself sitting on the bench.

The comic, who has well over half a million followers on Instagram, posted: “I don’t want to sound paranoid, but I think I’m on Black Sabbath Bridge. Go Birmingham.”

The post went up this week and has already attracted 3,137 likes, along with comments from fans such as “Wow. Fairies do wear boots”, “Good job size doesn’t matter Jimmy” and “All hail the Sabbath!”

Mike Olley, general manager of Westside BID, said: “Our Black Sabbath bench has had all sorts of media coverage all over the world, but this is the first time someone as famous as Jimmy Carr has used it for their own doll to sit on!

“Seriously, we love the publicity the bench is bringing to Westside and Birmingham, and it really is becoming one of the city’s iconic tourist attractions.”
