Welcome to Westside’s Winter Wonderland this Christmas

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas – and Westside is aiming to be at the centre of the festive fun and entertainment.

As the big day becomes ever nearer, Birmingham’s entertainment district is preparing for an unforgettable yuletide season with outdoor attractions, unmissable shows, events, and festive meals to get everyone into the spirit.

To make things easier for visitors to the Broad Street area, Westside BID has compiled a list of things for family and friends to do to ensure that this Christmas and New Year is one to remember.

Family and Friends

National Sea Life Centre: This venue has transformed its underwater experience by adding an extra attraction in the form of Santa’s grotto for the festive season.

Families are urged to bring their little ones for a meet and greet with Santa and learn about the wonderful aquatic creatures that the centre cares for.

The Crescent Theatre: A Christmas Wassail, 19 to 21 December at the Crescent Theatre.

Begin the Christmas celebrations in the best way possible with the Crescent’s ever-popular Wassail – a show with enough Christmas spirit to last all year!

Last year was the first time since 1985 that there hasn’t been a Crescent Theatre Wassail due to the pandemic, so the Sheepcote Street venue is sure theatre-goers will agree that the festive season just isn’t the same without it!

Visitors are invited to enjoy a mince pie and a glass of mulled wine as the wassailers enchant, delight and entertain them.

Symphony Hall: Love Actually in Concert: The Film with Live Orchestra.

Love Actually, the seasonal romcom starring Hugh Grant and Colin Firth, that has become a ‘must watch’ over the festive season, will be making a return appearance at Symphony Hall on 15 December.

The production will feature a full orchestra performing the film soundtrack live to picture, in what is becoming an annual highlight of the holiday calendar.

Notebenders Christmas Special: Westside BID and Symphony Hall welcome back the Ladywood-based community big band to the B:Music venue to provide a festive uplift with their unique mix of jazz and calypso music.

Spend the evening also listening to some of everyone’s favourite Christmas carols, with family and friends.
