Almost 40,000 enjoyed a spooky Halloween on Birmingham’s ‘golden mile’ last weekend

Tens of thousands of people flocked to Birmingham’s ‘golden mile’ last weekend, with many dressed up as their favourite spooky characters and super villains.

Halloween is often as busy as Christmas and New Year’s weekend, and the final headcount of customers enjoying the bars, clubs and restaurants in and around Westside reached nearly 40,000.

Mike Olley, general manager of Westside BID, said: “It was great to see so many thousands of people enjoying Westside safely.

“Our venues had a range of exciting activities and themed nights this Halloween, so I’m pleased to see how busy it was.”

Meanwhile, the theme has now turned from Halloween towards Christmas with tens of thousands of more customers expected to be enjoying Ice Skate Birmingham’s long anticipated return to the city this week.

The rink, big wheel and The Flyer ride are now open until 9 January for everybody to enjoy.

Mr Olley added: “Having Ice Skate Birmingham in Westside has become a fixed feature every Christmas and we are thrilled to have them back in our district.

“It’s guaranteed to be a good winter period in Westside, and I encourage people to keep an eye on our social media for updates.”
