REVIEW: Joker with ‘elegant touch’ of live orchestra finally screened on Westside

Westside’s long wait for the Joker was finally over when the award-winning film was shown with a live orchestra at Birmingham’s Symphony Hall.

The special screening of Joker Live in Concert was enjoyed by a crowd of film fanatics at the B:Music venue last week (Tuesday 19 October), after it had been postponed due to the pandemic in 2020.

We joined Joaquin Phoenix’s character Arthur Fleck’s emotional journey through the film, accompanied by an elegant touch from the live orchestra’s performance of the BAFTA award-winning score.

We navigated Arthur Fleck’s dark thoughts, whilst also focusing on his mental health, with a combination of looming industrial soundscapes and raw, emotive melodies – led by a lone cello. This was the first time I’ve watched a film like this, and I was left in awe of the experience, feeling treated to enjoy one of 2019’s most popular releases in such a creative way.

More performances of Joker Live in Concert can be seen at venues across the UK including Brighton, Manchester and Liverpool. To book visit: Joker Live In Concert – the Film with Live Orchestra Tickets | Events in 2021-22 | Ticketmaster UK

Meanwhile, I would strongly urge people to visit B:Music’s venues where they are showcasing a wide range of orchestral performances to several well-loved films suitable for all audiences and age groups. These include:
