BID’s virtual Wonders of Westside awards set to bring cheer to entertainment district

Westside BID plans to spread good news across the district with its 15th annual Wonders of Westside awards (WOWs) celebrating top venues and staff for outstanding achievements.

However, because of COVID-19 restrictions, this year’s ceremony will be virtual using the latest digital technology and will take place from 7pm on Sunday 31 January.

The WOWs awards will still be hosted from the heart of the city from Craft restaurant, based at The Terrace in the ICC, the event will be broadcast live using the BID’s YouTube channel.

There are loads of awards up for grabs on the night, including a selection of that viewers will have the opportunity to win from the comfort of their home, including:

  • Best Dressed Female
  • Best Dressed Male
  • Best Family Selfie, and
  • Best Dancer on the Night.

Mike Olley, general manager of Westside BID, explained that the awards will be filmed live from Craft with the strictest of safety guidelines throughout the event.

And he said viewers can expect to be WOW-ed by a live performance from singer Lorraine Olley which will get everyone on their feet – whether they’re in slippers or heels – for a great night of fun.

Mr Olley said: “The year 2020 has been incredibly challenging for everyone, but we are still determined to recognise venues and staff across the district.

“We hope this will help to uplift people and remind business, staff and most importantly customers about the wonderful places and scenery within the district.

“We have received an extremely positive response from businesses concerning the awards, with people really looking forward to having something upbeat to celebrate.”

He added: “The BID team is working incredibly hard to execute the show, and I sincerely hope everyone tunes in to enjoy the show at home.”
