The Library of Birmingham has announced details of its first annual gala event called ‘Author Author!’, to be held this December

The literary-themed event will give visitors the chance to meet and hear from top authors from across the world.

Hosted by the Library of Birmingham’s Development Trust, the evening event on Wednesday 10 December will include talks, readings and what have been described as “surprises” with guests invited to take part in a “playful experience” of Europe’s biggest public library.

The Trust’s patron, comedian Jasper Carrott OBE, will be compere at the event which starts with a drinks reception in the Library Foyer, continuing with an exclusive dinner in the Book Rotunda – accompanied by talks and readings by celebrated authors.

Meanwhile, the Royal Institute of British Architects has named the Library of Birmingham as one of 44 UK winners in its national awards.

Library director Brian Gambles said: “We are particularly delighted with this award as it puts the Library in the running for prestigious Stirling Prize later in this year”.

The shortlist for the RIBA Stirling Prize will be announced on Thursday 17 July and the winner will be announced on Thursday 16 October.
